Daiki Kashiwagi (Masakazu Nemoto), who moved to Tokyo with dreams of getting a job at a top-tier company, discovers Kabukicho and became immersed in the nightlife. Recently, he has been constantly feeling the eyes of strangers on him. Every day he feels as if someone is after him. He starts regretting his life in the face of illness. This is a documentary film that traces the path of photographer Masayoshi Sukita, who captured the eternal moments of geniuses throughout the ages such as David Bowie, YMO, and Kiyoshiro Imawano. He is known for his 40-year collaboration with David Bowie, as well as his work with Iggy Pop, Marc Bolan, Shuji Terayama, and Kiyoshiro Imawano. He began his career in the 1960s, and by 1970 he had expanded his activities worldwide. He worked in a wide range of fields including advertising, fashion, and film, and is currently holding exhibitions of his photographs in England, France, Italy, the United States, and other parts of the world. This is the first documentary film that follows Sukita, who is now 80 years old, from his creative activities to his personality, and it also provides hints about Masayoshi Sukita's future life as a photographer. In the film, world-renowned artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tomoyasu Hotei, MIYAVI, Jim Jarmusch, Paul Smith, and Kansai Yamamoto talk about their work with Sukita and their memories of him.

This is a documentary that takes a close look at the legendary director Sadao Nakajima (age 83 at the time of filming) from the shooting of his first feature film in 20 years, Tajuro Junaiki, to its release. Under the direction of Nakajima, who continues his commitment of making films in Kyoto, the birthplace of Japanese cinema, this work shows the cast and crew making the film at the Toei Studios Kyoto in 2018. The film also features testimonies from friends, family, and former colleagues, describing the life and work of the director Sadao Nakajima.

To be or not to be is the question that Beyond the Skies asks. Goro Haji is a day laborer living in Nishinari, Osaka. He is a strong man and is trusted by everyone, but he is also known as "Goro the Murderer" because he was imprisoned for murder in the past. One day, Goro learned about his family's current situation and decided to do something about it. He decides to do whatever it takes to earn 400 million yen for his only daughter, who is suffering from an incurable disease.
This money and crime thriller features the life of a man desperately trying to make a lot of money, based on the dark world of modern society and the power of human emotion.

Masao Kaneda (Kanemasa) makes a living by burglarizing houses. In one of the houses he sneaks into, there is a girl named Mari, who has been abused by her mother's boyfriend and neglected by her mother. Kaneda, who was abused as a child, sees this girl who was left in a house where gas and electricity were cut off, and tries to help her in his own way, killing her mother's boyfriend who was abusing her.
Mari's mother Rin, who was also abused as a child, doesn't know how to deal with children because of it. The three of them begin to live together, albeit awkwardly, and eventually become like a real family.
Based on the theme of child abuse and neglect, this emotional drama depicts the human heart and family love in abusive situations.

The film takes place in Shinsekai, Osaka. Katsutaro Murakami (Katsuyoshi) used to run a boxing gym, but after a trainee was arrested, he closed the gym and went to work at a kushikatsu (deep-fried skewer) restaurant run by a childhood friend. One day Katsuyoshi is invited to visit a prison and is reunited with Yuji Konogi (Korogi), who was like a younger brother and helped him destroy a yakuza gang. Korogi had been imprisoned for drugs.
Later, Korogi is released from prison and starts working at a kushikatsu restaurant with Katsuyoshi. By chance, the two learn that a boy who knows Katsuyoshi is being held by a corrupt religious group. In order to save the lonely boy and someone to whom they owe a debt of gratitude, the strongest duo is back together.

A long-awaited anime adaptation of the picture book Riku wa Yowakunai (original story by Shinobu Sakagami, illustration by Cooki) released in April 2020.
This is a touching story that teaches us the importance of life, based on the short life of Shinobu Sakagami's beloved dog, Riku.
The character design is by Cooki, and the theme song is "Asayake" written by Kazuyoshi Saito. The cast features popular voice actors Tomoyuki Morikawa, Tomokazu Sugita, Shotarou Morikubo, Natsuki Hanae, Rika Matsumoto, and Masumi Asano.

Story 1: Beautiful Keirin Bicycle Racing
These days, the town and the bicycle racing circuit are expected to have a clean image. This is the story of Oshima, a middle-aged bicycle racer who is caught between the times. Although he is not yet old enough to retire, he is not able to follow the new ways of living, and spends his days in frustration, having lost the pleasure of drinking, women, and gambling. In the end, all Oshima has left is the bicycle race track and his friends who have become his rivals.
Story 2: Seaside Bicycle
Nagisa, a female fisherman on the wrong side of thirty, goes out to sea every day. One day, she finds a bicycle washed up on the beach. She loves it so much that instead of going out to sea, she rides it around town and refuses to part ways with it. However, Nagisa's father, who is not happy with her, throws her bike away. This is a story like a fairy tale, with a fantastic twist waiting for you at the end.
Story 3: Ice & Oil
Sunako and Hiroshi, who grew up in Tamano City, work at a shipyard. One day, Hiroshi quits his job and starts working at a stylish shaved ice shop. The reason is Momo, a beautiful woman who has moved from Tokyo. Sunako, who has a one-sided crush on Hiroshi, can't help but feel curious about Momo. While Sunako despises Tamano City, Momo praises the city as the gateway to the Setouchi region, which is full of art. The relationship between Sunako and Hiroshi gradually begins to fall apart, but what keeps them together is the symbol of the city, the keirin bicycle race, which has been a close part of their lives since they were children.

Keisuke Yasuda is a filmmaker from Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture, who has been barely getting by making promotional videos for companies in Tokyo. Yamamoto, who has written an autobiographical novel about Tsuyama High School, asks him if he would like to make a promotional film about Tsuyama based on the novel. The original story of the novel is about a woman named Tsukiko who was Yamamoto's first love, set in Tsuyama High School. Keisuke, who has always dreamed of making a film, returns to his hometown to write a scenario, but he suffers from the overlap between the woman named Tsukiko in the original story and "that girl" who he knew in his own high school days. That girl was Keisuke's first love when he was in high school. He never told her how he felt about her, and somehow they lost touch, and when he was in his 3rd year in high school, he found out about her accidental death.

The movie takes place in Ogimi, Okinawa.
Akira Kamiya, the owner of a local construction company, was an ideal boss who was well-liked by his employees. However, he is old, suffering from dementia, and is confined to a wheelchair.

The main character, Tomomi, who has been living with bulls since she was a child working as a cowherd,
is fascinated by them and is struggling to promote the city as a bullfighting town.
Yoshiki, a live-in hoof trimmer, begins to have doubts about his relationship with the bulls.
Based on the true story of Yukie Kudaka, a photographer who published a photo book called Togyu Joshi (Bullfighting Girls),
this story depicts the emotional growth of the main character,
who struggles to promote bullfighting, and a young man who aspires to become a hoof trimmer.

This is a human-interest comedy centered on the story of Teppei, a young man working in farming, and his childhood friend Satsuki, who has returned to her hometown, set in fields of lit-up chrysanthemums in Yomitan Village.

At the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989), motion picture films were sold as toy films and small films for general home use. The films included not only popular period dramas and animations, but also now valuable documentary footage of Showa history, such as the Emperor's Grand Ceremony and the Manchurian Incident, which were viewed on hand-cranked projectors. The images recorded by the film departments of newspapers before WWII are historical testimonies and a cultural heritage of humanity. This film attempts to edit these images in the hope that connecting them in chronological order might reveal a forgotten aspect of Showa history. In this film festival, we will present a shortened version up to the Manchurian Incident and the Shanghai Incident to show how Japan became involved in the war.

Retro Kyoto is a film project to unearth valuable images of Kyoto and provide them to citizens. This time, we have a home movie from 1930, shot by a citizen with a Pathé Baby (9.5mm film). The three films show a trip to Amanohashidate in Tango, a trip down the Hozu River enjoyed by famous people, and the Kyoto Ekiden relay race. The race finish line is at Heian Shrine after running through various places whose scenery has completely changed now, such as Keage, Fushimi, Saga, and Omuro. It is very interesting to watch the film while recalling the current scenery. The film Yojo Dori wo Hashiru (Running Down 4th Street) from the Taisho era, which was added as an additional feature, is a toy film (35mm film), and is an interesting account of Kyoto in the old days, when Kawaramachi Dori was still narrow, there was no Tohka Saikan, and the north side of Hanamikoji Street had not yet been developed.

In 1926, capitalizing on the popularity of Tsumasaburo Bando, Ryosuke Tachibana, the owner of Bando Tsumasaburo Productions, signed a contract with Universal Pictures in the U.S. for worldwide distribution, and a joint venture was born. However, because of Tsumasaburo Bando's exclusive contract with Shochiku Kinema, he was unable to export the films he starred in. Without a star, the contemporary drama had no box-office power, and Universal's demands were not met, resulting in the cancellation of the contract. Bando Tsumasaburo Productions, which had produced 35 films, lost its dream of worldwide distribution only six months after signing the contract.
The comedy Tosei Shinshotai starring Naminosuke Horikawa and Haruko Izumi is a valuable work for being the only remaining film made by this joint venture.

The original title of the film, Stop, Look and Listen, made in 1926, was changed to Dorubako Simon when it was released in Japan in 1927, but the cover of the film donated to the museum had Moshin Rari written on it, so it will be shown under that title.
Larry Semon was at the peak of his career in the 1920's. However, he spent a huge amount of money on each short film, including this one, and violated his contract many times including shooting so many days that the film's completion was delayed resulting in a lawsuit from Vitagraph. Financial troubles always haunted Larry.
The story begins with a robbery at the bank where Larry works. Larry is mistaken for the criminal and is pursued by citizens. The robber flees, Larry pursues, and the police and citizens follow after Larry. The action continues with cars, motorcycles, and trains. A railroad bridge is destroyed creating a series of chaotic, crisis-filled action scenes. Oliver Hardy, of the comedy duo Laurel & Hardy, plays the role of the robber, which garnered a lot of attention.

Excerpted from the feature film The Cloudhopper (aka Keep Jumping), it was retitled The Weak-end Driver by Castle Film and edited into a film less than 10 minutes long for sale. The great thing about this film is that it is directed by Stephen Roberts and edited by Sam Zimbalist, who would later become the producer of the blockbuster Ben-Hur starring Charlton Heston. As is typical of Larry Semon's work, this silent comedy is short but full of excitement, from chases on trains, motorcycles, and cars to acrobatic action on airplanes.

This is a silent comedy by Harold Lloyd, one of the three greatest comedians of all time. It features the same situation as Lloyd's For Heaven's Sake (1926) made seven years later, and can be considered a prototype for that film.

Paul Parrott is the younger brother of American comedy actor Charley Chase, who was often mistaken for his older brother. Later, Paul directed under the name James Parrott and made many masterpieces such as The Music Box by Laurel and Hardy, known in Japan as the Gokuraku Konbi.
In the 1920s, there was a rush to build skyscrapers, and just like Harold Lloyd's Safety Last!, TAKE THE AIR will keep you on the edge of your seat with its dangerous gags and comedy sequences on top of skyscrapers.

A mysterious silent film based on the novel Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Human beings have two sides, good and evil. Dr. Jekyll, who studies the dual personalities of human beings, takes a drug that causes his own personality to split, leading him down a path of destruction. John Barrymore plays the role of the good and benevolent Dr. Jekyll, as well as Mr. Hyde, the vulgar and brutal man of desire. The film thrillingly depicts his transformation and the agony of his path toward destruction, from which there is no turning back.

This adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's original story is a classic science fiction film. It took Willis O'Brien, the world's leading pioneer of stop-motion animation, seven years to produce this film. The famous King Kong (1933) was also his work, and he won the Academy Award in Special Visual Effects for Mighty Joe Young (1949). The Lost World is a special effects classic that brings dinosaurs from the depths of the South American Amazon to modern London, and is a monumental work as a trailblazer for science fiction films, including Jurassic Park.

In 1927, Utaemon Ichikawa became independent from Makino Film Productions and opened his own studio in Ayameike, Nara. This is a commemorative film of this endeavor. Following Tsumasaburo Bando, Ichikawa established a star production comany and played a role in the heyday of sword-fighting films. The story begins with Harunojo Sekiguchi vowing to avenge his father who was killed in a petty dispute. However, his life is in trouble and he ends up stealing a man's belongings on his journey. This is witnessed by the little fox Otama, and he begins his descent into evil. By chance, he meets his enemy at a mansion he has broken into with his friends, and achieves his goal, but his mother has already committed suicide due to hardship. Surrounded by his captors, Harunojo purifies his body and soul in a fierce battle, and dies together with Otama.

Kyoto News was produced by the Kyoto City Public Relations Bureau and shown in movie theaters throughout the city from 1956 to 1994. It is a collection of videos on topics such as the lives of citizens, urban development, changes in the landscape, festivals, welfare, international exchange, and cultural activities.
More than 60 years have passed since its production, and it is not only a history of Kyoto city administration, but also a valuable visual cultural asset for today.
This year's Kyoto International Film and Art Festival will present a collection of news footage of the Gion Festival, one of Japan's three largest festivals, taken between 1956 and 1989.

The Oka Shrine in Hirose Village in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, is the village's guardian deity, built about 750 years ago.
In 2010, the shrine was rebuilt for the first time in 200 years. In December of that year, the shimenawa rope was made to welcome the New Year.
This documentary film follows the passing down of the art of making shimenawa rope from the elders of the village to the young people.
With smiles on their faces, the elders teach and guide the young people, who are unable to twist the rope as well as they would like.
Ten years have passed since the film was made, and the cheerful faces of villagers who have already passed away come back to life.

Kinder Film Fest Kyoto is active in Kyoto. They have been involved in various activities through watching and making films, but due to COVID-19, their activities have also undergone changes. 2020 was a year when children couldn't go to school due to COVID-19. The children themselves recorded what they felt and how they spent their time in this 30-minute film.

Golek Garwo relates the story of an elderly man, Basri, his wish to get married again, and the expectations and
reality he faces. This documentary offers a different take on the love that is usually expressed in romance films: always something beautiful and perfect in an ideal world. It depicts the simple and practical expression of love. It focuses on simple acts of intimacy; arguments between the bride and the groom and a sense of pride that stops them from expressing their true feelings. This documentary is a sensitive portrayal of a daughter’s search for a lost father amidst the impact of the conflicts in the late 1980s.

A Simple Love Story is a documentary film that follows a not so simple love between a tomboy and transvestite man in modern day Myanmar. It traces the tensions that the couple faces and places them at the heart of issues in Burmese society: how can transgender people negotiate their love in society that has yet to embrace their differences?

This documentary focuses on a farmer, Sutrisno whose daughter, Alya, has dreadlocked hair. The documentary offers a close por_x0002_trayal of people’s beliefs that a child with dreadlocked hair comes from supernatural ancestors who follow the child. This film fol_x0002_lows a family and their run up to a dreadlock haircutting ritual and the negotiations before the event. The director sensitively shows how Sutrisno, as the head of the family, works hard to fulfill his daughter’s request to complete the ritual.

Delisa, a six-year-old girl, lives with her mother, Salama, and her three sisters in a seaside village on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. She loves playing soccer with the boys, but unlike her sisters, she is not good at prayer and will not learn to pray unless she receives something. I have been working on detective dramas and suspense dramas as a professional assistant director, but sometimes there are films that are not realistic which puts me in a dilemma. This is a film I made in pursuit of realism. This film challenges over 100 years of film history with a single-scene/single-cut format including the present, the past, and delusions. It's a never-before-seen documentary style film about the life of a woman struggling with infidelity.

The theme of "a memory that dwells in space" is the foundation of Born Again. The film's most distinctive feature is that it depicts the end of space during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this film, the space is a super sento (public bath), and until the title appears in the film, the purpose and value of this place is to cleanse the visitors and heal their body and soul.
After the title is displayed, the film setting becomes the public bath that has closed due to COVID-19, and it depicts how the place cannot fulfill its purpose because there are no more visitors. The film looks at the space of the public bath through the eyes of a cleaning staff member and invokes the voices of the staff who used to work there, as well as those of the customers, to give life to the space.

After the death of his beloved father and his mother getting remarried, Kento (11) is dealing with loneliness in secret.
When Kento moves to a new place, he meets Susumu (79), who stubbornly continues to run a small cram school he used to run with his late wife, and becomes his last student.
Susumu was separated from his parents when he was a child, and is about to enter the last years of his life, without ever knowing his real name.
One day, Susumu invites Kento on a journey to find his true name. Susumu has a strong desire to know his true self, while Kento is dealing with the loneliness of not being able to feel his mother's love. Their problems somehow overlap, and a solid friendship that transcends generations is formed.
At the end of the journey, Susumu gives Kento "homework" for living life.
